Numerology Terms, Defined

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Every term below is defined in one sentence first — the way you’d want it quoted — then explained the way a friend would. All definitions follow our documented method: Pythagorean system, parts reduced separately, master numbers preserved.

Life Path Number — The core number of your chart, calculated by reducing your birth day, month, and year separately and summing the results, preserving master numbers at every step. It describes your standing pattern: how you love, choose, and grow. It never changes. Calculate yours free →

The 12 Life Path numbers — every number’s meaning, mapped in one place: see all 12 →

Master Number — 11, 22, or 33: the three numbers never reduced further during calculation, carrying an intensified version of their base digit (2, 4, 6). A master number is higher voltage, not higher rank — more sensitivity, more capacity, more homework. See the rule →

Pythagorean Numerology — The Western system assigning letters values 1–9 in alphabetical order (A=1 … I=9, J=1 again) and reducing dates by parts. It’s the system this entire site uses, shown step by step in every reading. How we calculate →

Chaldean Numerology — The older Babylonian system with different letter values (1–8, no 9 assigned) and a focus on name vibrations. Legitimate, different, and NOT what we use — if another calculator disagrees with ours, the system mismatch is usually why.

Karmic Debt Number — 13, 14, 16, or 19 appearing as the pre-reduction total in a core calculation, read as a lesson repeating until answered: 13 (shortcuts vs honest work), 14 (freedom used well), 16 (ego vs truth in intimacy), 19 (learning to receive). A curriculum, never a curse. Where it shows up →

Expression Number (also Destiny Number) — The sum of all letters in your full birth name, reduced with masters preserved: your talents and the shape of what you’re built to do — including how you show up in love. Decode your name →

Soul Urge Number (also Heart’s Desire) — The sum of only the VOWELS in your birth name: what you actually want underneath what you show. When Soul Urge and Expression differ sharply, that gap is usually the interesting part of a reading. Find yours →

Personality Number — The consonants of your birth name: the outer layer, what people read in the first ten minutes. The vestibule, not the house.

Personal Year — Your birth day + birth month + the current calendar year, reduced: the theme of your year, changing every January 1. The one moving part of numerology — a nine-year cycle from beginning (1) to completion (9).

Personal Month — Your Personal Year + the calendar month number, reduced: the month’s flavor inside the year’s theme. Weather, not law.

Universal Year — The current year’s digits reduced (2026 → 1; 2027 → 11, a master year): the background theme everyone shares, which your Personal Year plays against.

Birthday Number — Simply the day of the month you were born (reduced if over 9, masters kept): a secondary talent marker, the seasoning on the Life Path’s main dish.

Angel Number — A repeating number sequence you keep noticing (1111, 0909, 444). We read them from their actual digits — sum, reduction, and the meaning of the repeated number — not from recycled folklore. Noticing WHAT you notice is half the reading.

Mirror Hour — A clock-time palindrome or repeat (12:21, 09:09, 11:11) treated in popular practice like an angel number with a timestamp. Same house rule: the digits carry the meaning, your attention carries the message.

Compatibility (numerological) — The read of two Life Paths together: their natural resonance, honest friction, and the condition that makes the pairing work. Our house rule, always: no pairing is doomed — every match is a set of conditions, and conditions can be met. Compare two dates →

Mirror Match — Our term for a same-number pairing (7 & 7, 3 & 3): instant understanding, identical blind spots, doubled. Works when someone names the shared pattern out loud first.

Natural Flow — Our term for pairings whose numbers pull the same direction (e.g., 1 & 5, 2 & 6): easy early, with the work being depth under the ease.

Growth Match — Our term for pairings whose numbers pull in different directions (e.g., 7 & 4, 1 & 8): works only on purpose, never on autopilot — and plenty do. Often outlasts the “easy” matches, because everything it builds is built deliberately.

Reduction — The core operation of numerology: summing a number’s digits repeatedly until a single digit remains (or a master number appears, which stops the reduction). 1988 → 1+9+8+8 = 26 → 2+6 = 8. We reduce PARTS separately — day, month, year each on their own — because summing everything at once loses master numbers along the way. The method →

Calculation Shown — Not a traditional term; our house standard. Every reading on this site displays its math step by step, because a reading you can’t verify is just a stranger’s opinion with fonts. How we calculate →
